The 'anti-Tory unit'

Appears to be a note dealing with “the Tories and the Liberals” written by Gordon Brown. “We should position ourselves with an anti-Tory unit,” he states, asking his staff to identify “where they can have a bridgehead to the issues of the left”. Ed Balls is tasked with preventing “them being credible on economy”. “Prevent them taking over as an issue the environment,” is left to environmentalist Michael Jacobs, another Brown adviser. Mr Brown’s assessment that the Tories would soon start addressing typically left-wing issues was prescient – in April 2006, David Cameron was photographed with huskies in Norway to draw attention to the Conservatives’ emphasis on the environment.
